Bus Crashes in Pakistan Kill 36

Two bus crashes that occurred just a few hours apart in Pakistan left 36 people dead and dozens more injured, according to officials. The crashes occurred on August 26, 2024.

The first bus was carrying Shiite Muslim pilgrims returning from Iraq through Iran. The bus fell from a highway into a ravine in southwest Pakistan, killing 12 people and injuring 32 others, police and officials reported. The driver lost control on the Makran coastal highway when the brakes failed, local police chief Qazi Sabir said.

Just a few hours later, an entire busload of 24 people were killed when that bus fell into a ravine in the Kahuta district of the eastern Punjab province, according to police and local officials. A senior government official in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Omar Farooq, said there were no survivors.
