A boat carrying African migrants capsized Sunday, August 3 in waters off Yemen’s Coast. Sixty-eight people died and 74 others were missing initially, according to the U. HN.’s migration agency.
This is the latest in a series of similar incidents off Yemen that have killed hundreds of migrants vying for the chance of a better life in wealthier countries as they flee conflict zones and poverty.
This particular boat held 154 Ethiopian migrants and sank in the Gulf of Adan, according to Abdusattor Esoev, head of the Intl. Organization for Migration in Yemen. According to Esoev, only 12 of the migrants survived.
