Bomb Threat at Savannah-Hilton Head Int’l. Airport Leads to Evacuation

Passengers at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport were told to evacuate the airport and expect flight delays Saturday afternoon, May 3. The flight disruptions were caused by a bomb threat that came in midday, airport officials said at the time. They said the threat was credible enough to shut down the airport and that they proceeded to turn the case over to the FBI.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we are evacuating the terminal building,” airport officials said in a post. “Passengers should proceed the parking garage areas. All inbound roadway traffic is being rerouted away from the airport.”

The building was checked with bomb sniffing dogs. Several hours later, by about 2:25 p.m., officials said that the area was cleared and they began letting TSA staff and other essential employees re-enter the building. Passengers were allowed to re-enter following the staff.
