Derailing Attempt Thwarted in India

An attempt to derail the Maharaja Express was averted near Jaipur, India due to the alertness of the locomotive pilot. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 20 as the train was traveling from Jaipur to Sawai Madhopur with foreign tourists onboard. The pilot noticed five or six heavy angle irons placed apparently deliberately on the railway track near Shivdaspura.

The pilot applied emergency brakes, stopping the train and preventing a possible tragedy. Railway Protection Force and local police reached the spot and removed the obstruction. A case has been registered against unknown persons, and an investigation is underway. The authorities say they have increased security and track patrolling in the area following the incident.
