The driver of the truck used in the vehicle ramming attack in New Orleans has been identified. Law enforcement officials identified 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U. S. citizen from Texas, as the suspect. Jabbar was killed after the attack while exchanging gunfire with police. Local and federal authorities say he had potential improvised explosive devices and an ISIS flag in the truck. The man is an Army veteran who worked in real estate and IT.
Jabbar, born in Beaumont, Texas, served in the U. S. Army, although officials have not confirmed details about his service. A 2013 U. S. Army Facebook post identified Jabbar as an Army Staff Sergeant who worked as an information technology chief for the 82nd Airborne Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team at that time. The investigating authorities say they have uncovered videos made by Jabbar talking about various topics including joining ISIS, (the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). An ISIS flag was found on the truck.
