Iran Says Straight of Hormuz is Closed, Again

Iran’s military command officially announced the total closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic late yesterday. The order states that any commercial or military vessel attempting to pass will be targeted, a move made in retaliation to recent US strikes on Iranian territory.

Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters issued the closure notice on Wednesday, June 10 following overnight US military strikes on targets in Iran’s Hormozgan province.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy stated that the strait is closed to “any type of vessel, including oil tankers and commercial vessels”.

While Iran has declared the area a closed military zone and threatened to shoot at passing vessels, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) maintains that the strait remains open and vessels continue to transit through the area.
