A man living in California was arrested on Saturday, May 30, after he allegedly tried to bring a bomb through security at Sacramento International Airport, according to the Department of Justice.
The complaint says the man attempted to go through a TSA checkpoint with a scarf covering his face and latex gloves on his hands.
Inside his carry-on bag, agents reportedly found an M-type explosive device and a torch lighter capable of lighting the explosive, as well as a knife, scissors, scissor blades, an aerosol can and zip ties.
Also discovered in his belongings were five cellphones, one of which had a 15-minute timer that was ready to start. Another phone had an suspicious message from an unidentified number on the screen that stating, “we will be awaiting your call,” reports say.
The man was identified as 49-year-old Sacramento resident Kimani Osayande Jones. He was trying to board an American Airlines flight to Charlotte, North Carolina around 9 p.m. when the items were discovered, according to California’s Eastern District Court.
