Sri Lankan Bus Veers off Road, Down Cliff Killing 21

Twenty-one people were killed and 35 others were injured when a bus carrying dozens of Buddhist pilgrims veered off the road and careened down a cliff, authorities said.

The crash took place early on Sunday, May 11 in a mountainous area near Kotmale, about 140km (86 miles) east of the capital, Colombo.

“Twenty one have died and we are trying to identify the victims,” Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena told local media.
