Four Arrested at Thai Airport for Smuggling Cannabis

Four tourists from Europe were stopped at an international airport in Phuket, Thailand, while attempting to smuggle more than 30 kilograms of cannabis out of the country.

Customs officers discovered bag containing cannabis buds and processed marijuana. The substance was in vacuum-sealed bags concealed inside the group’s checked luggage.

The seized haul was valued at nearly 2.6 million baht and was allegedly headed toward Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in France.

Local police charged the young suspects with violations of the Customs Act, the Narcotics Code, and Thai herbal regulation laws., local authorities said.

Although Thailand decriminalized marijuana in 2022, export restrictions remain strictly enforced as authorities try to tighten control over the trade.
